Sanssouci Jazz Night: On Air

Airy jazz in historical environment

Area around Sanssouci Palace | CHECK-IN: 8:00 pm, Visitors' Centre "At Hist. Mill" / Address: An der Orangerie 1, 14469 Potsdam

The area at Sanssouci Palace serves as spectacular setting for an aerophone jazz night. Jazz celebrities led by legendary Fred Wesley capture the air by means of vocal cords, wind instruments and accordions and make swing until it burns!

There's nonstop music on several stages - Summer Terrace Restaurant Mövenpick, Historical Mill, Nordic and Sicilian Garden, New Chambers Sanssouci - both "open air" and in a sophisticated hall.

artists

  • FRED WESLEY & THE NEW JBs (USA)
Fred Wesley, trombone | Gary Winters, trumpet | Phillip Whack, saxophone | Peter Madsen, keyboards | Reggie Ward, guitar | Dwayne Dolphin, bass guitar | Bruce Cox, drums
Here comes a giant: He practically invented funk, his genius brass movements are unmatched, he wrote musical history with James Brown and Maceo Parker and with his jazz-funk-band he's still grooving in the Champions' League.
  • MOTION TRIO (Poland)
Janusz Wojtarowicz, Paweł Baranek & Marcin Gałażyn, accordion
Forget everything you think you know about the accordion. This trio fuses its instruments to a symbiotic super organ and plays extraterrestrial music on it.
  • CÉLINE BONACINA TRIO (France)
Céline Bonacina, saxophone | Hary Ratsimbazafy, drum | Olivier Carole, electric bass
The "Queen of the baritone saxophones" handles her massive, favourite instrument both with energy and elegance. A touch of funk, reggae and afro beat gives her sounds its unique zest.
  • SPEAK LOW (Switzerland/Sweden)
Lucia Cadotsch, vocals | Otis Sandsjö, tenor saxophone | Petter Eldh, double bass
When the creative trio with their excitingly cool singer Lucia Cadotsch perform classics like "Strange Fruit" it's like hearing them for the first time: authentic, compulsory, intense.
  • NINIWE (Germany)
Winnie Brückner, Caroline Krohn, Hanne Schellmann, Lena Sundermeyer, vocals
Four female vocal entertainers ranging from a lean soprano to a smoky soul voice present a capella art with cunning arrangements at its very best.
  • KAROLA ELSSNER, saxophone solo (Germany)
  • The TRIO MANDILI awaits you in the Ovid Gallery. Performing traditional love songs from their home region Georgia made them a YouTube sensation. Accordion virtuoso Ludo Mariën performs in the same venue.
