Villa Illaire Garden

Right in the middle of paradise: music in Potsdam's gardens

Villa Illaire Garden / Address: Am Grünen Gitter 6, 14469 Potsdam

RAIN ACTIVITIES: Meeting point remains Villa Illaire. In case of thunderstorm the concert will take place at the nearby cloister of Friedenskirche Sanssouci. Our staff will guide you to the alternative venue.

A number of particularly beautiful private gardens in Potsdam open their gates exclusively and host an al fresco home concert. After being greeted by your hosts in person you will find out all about the garden and its history and meet the festival artists up, close and personal. Relax and enjoy superb music with coffee, wine and some small dainties: leave your daily routine behind and enter the magical empire of blossoming gardens.

The "Garden Music" is presented in cooperation with the Supporters' Club of the Music Festival Potsdam Sanssouci. We wish to express our gratitude to all garden owners who kindly agreed to open their gardens to us.

description

The former house of the Marly gardener Joachim Heinrich Voss who also happened to be father in law to Peter Joseph Lenné, was built in the style of an Italian villa by Ludwig Ferdinand Hesse for Cabinet Councillor Ernst Emil Illaire (1797-1866) who worked for Frederic William III, Frederic William IV and William I. The designs are by Ludwig Perseus. The villa's garden is surrounded by high walls and filled with Mediterranean pot plants. Its quiet intimacy brings back memories of a secret garden.
