In a baroque garden art appears to have tamed nature. The latter has to obey symmetry and must adhere to the order of predetermined forms - yet a strange number of oddities is growing on those meticulously designed flowerbeds. Entwined ornaments border on the straight path and hedges become a labyrinth. Johann Adam Reincken's "Musical Garden" is a lot like that, its rigidly constructed suites contain the vivid fantasies, which made a young Bach rave about the Hamburg organ master's improvisations. A garden for dreaming, for dancing, for strolling through and above all for spending time in. The ensemble STYLUS PHANTASTICUS and their viol player Friederike Heumann revel in the sensual sounds of the string instruments and certainly live up to their name.
