The year is 1600 and there is no place for listening to the most magnificent music like St Mark’s Cathedral in Venice. And there is no teacher of such music like Giovanni Gabrieli. That is why princes decided to send their most gifted musicians to study at the lagoon. When Heinrich Schütz arrived in 1609, the young Danish composer Mogens Pedersøn had just started the journey home. Both men would make their teacher proud. Schütz becomes famous far beyond Dresden where he works and spends a few happy years removed from the hardship of the Thirts Years’ War as director of music in Copenhagen. Pedersøn is the first Danish musician to be appointed vice conductor at the Danish Court – his music is worth being discovered.
