Emotional chaos is inevitable when an ex marries the best friend, and then he restarts liking his current girlfriend’s predecessor. The opera’s subtitle promises that »Those who persevere, win at last«. In 1680 Rome it was a hit for Bernardo Pasquini so the Innsbruck Festival is waking the forgotten masterpiece from its sleeping beauty slumber. Be warned: this music is highly addictive.

Idalma and Lindoro are a couple, as are Irene and Celindo. And Lindoro and Irene used to be a couple and that is the problem: suddenly Lindoro wants to get back together with his ex and dumps Idalma. By coincidence they all meet at Irene’s place and that is where the confusing games of love, faithfulness and jealousy kick off. Let’s see who perseveres and wins. One major win is certainly the rediscovery of Pasquini as an opera composer: his score features expressively powerful arias, sparkling ensembles and instrumental colourfulness masterly conducted by Alessandro Promoli and played by the Innsbruck Festival Orchestra. Stage director Alessandra Premoli guides the soloists through all the highs and lows of the plot staging a passionate musical theatre production packed with wit, charm, and all kinds of traps. Enjoy!
