A Renaissance Dance Festival for the ears
Music by Michael Praetorius, William Brade, Anthony Holborne, John Dowland & Samuel Scheidt
Capriccio Stravagante Renaissance Orchestra
Skip Sempé, musical direction & harpsichord
American harpsichord virtuoso and conductor Skip Sempé is a fan of the dance Muse Terpsichore. He not only named a festival after her, he also dedicated an album to her and created one of the most opulent sounds in contemporary early music with his orchestra uniting the best players of renaissance instruments according to historical models: violins, viols, violones, recorders, cornets, trombones, chitarrones, harpsichord and percussion. French dances from Michael Praetorius’ collection »Terpsichore« take turns with pieces by English contemporaries turning the 16th century’s highly developed instrumental virtuosity into a great listening event.
