Aristide Cavaillé-Coll revolutionized organ building and created one of his masterpieces between 1863-68 for Notre-Dame. Noz only Franz Liszt was amazed by his instruments that were on a par with contemporary orchestras in terms of timbral and dynamic possibilities. The organ symphonies by Charles-Marie Widors and Cäsar Franck’s great organ pieces are unthinkable without Cavaillé-Coll as they founded a genuine French organ tradition. The nighttime concert on the Church of Piece’s Woehl organ is perfect for letting such music unfold all its tonal magnificence.
Organ maker Gerhard Woehl is present. Join him in the cloister from 21.00 when he presents things to know about the organ that was dedicated in 2004.
