The musical metropolis of Venice is a dream of a city built on the muddy foundations of more than 100 islands that disappear into the water during floods. The historical centre is a large island linked to smaller ones by hundreds of bridges. Lido is known as Venice’s island for beach life, Murano for its glassblower’s art, Burano for its colourful buildings, its precious lace as well as its greatest musical son Baldassare Galuppi. The young virtuosos surrounding Evgeni Sviridov present a delightful program consisting of baroque chamber music treasures by Venetians, Venetians-by-choice and affiliated artists – and the violin sings the ancient tune of the gondoliers.
