ACCADEMIA BIZANTINA

Ottavio Dantone harpsichord & musical director

She is educated, linguistically talented, musically gifted, and on top of that very charming: Prussia’s first Queen is a credit to the state. Sophie Charlotte – well-connected to Hanoverian culture networks – attracts free spirits to the court and sets them on the agenda. The Berlin Academy of the Sciences is a project she initiates with her friend Leibniz and her »Court of the Muses« will serve as example to her nephew Friedrich II. Word of her musical passion gets around, Ariosti and Bononcini compose for her, Corelli and Torelli dedicate works to her and even young Händel stops by. Outstanding Italian Baroque Ensemble Accademia Bizantina dedicate an Italian florilegium to the expert artist who was an art expert. Very much inspired by the Queen’s own gusto – only the very best will do!
