Juliane Laake, idea, concept & musical direction

Denmark consists almost entirely of islands in the sea and the Capital City of Copenhagen is located on the largest of these islands. In the 17th century King Christian’s court was dominated by guest virtuosos from the British Isles and their lute and viol art. One of their specialties was polyphonically playing the lyra viol with chordal tunes. According to Juliane Laake, even Orpheus himself would have exchanged his lyre for one of these elegant bass viols and consequently she made it companion to Gabriel Voigtländer’s songs, which form the program’s central theme. Besides that, the ducal summer palace the Electors had built on the shore of Lake Templiner See is always worth a visit.
