Her thread leads Theseus out of the Minotaur’s labyrinth on Crete but when they get to Naxos the hero leaves her behind. Ever since then Ariadne’s passionate lamentation has been considered the embodiment of loss and being left and numerous composers have set her pain to music. When the baroque orchestra from Berne presents its opulently orchestrated variations of the theme, the role of the tragic heroine is not only performed by charming Hana Blažíková, even a solo violin plays the part and sheds heart-breaking tears over the traitorous lover.
Unfortunately, Hana Blažíková had to cancel her appearance at the Potsdam Sanssouci Music Festival for family reasons. We are delighted that the soprano Anna Herbst was willing to take on the demanding solo part of Ariadne at short notice. Her performance marks the singer's first appearance at the Potsdam Sanssouci Music Festival and she is sure to win over the audience effortlessly with her artistry and charm.
