Symphonics, opera, violin concert: not only is this program as opulent and diverse as a concert at the Gewandhaus during the Mendelssohn era, but actually he himself could have staged it! It does after all mix his own music with works by illustrious friends and colleagues the maestro always enjoyed putting on the program. The simple motto was always »Thou shallst not bore!« and consequently audiences are treated to an evening of tender lyrics, sparkling coloraturas, virtuoso splendor and orchestral magnificence. A horn of plenty for the ears – and a panorama of contemporary musical taste, which truly allows us to appreciate Mendelssohn as a genius composer who conquered new frontiers.
