Joseph Haydn’s brother Michael was supposed to write six duos for the Prince-Bishop of Salzburg but he had only finished four when the deadline was looming. Friend Mozart helped and wrote »Take this and give it to Colloredo using your name«. It took historical musicology some time to realize the fraudulent labelling, which says a lot about the quality of Haydn’s music. Rumour has it that the violin part, which the unpopular employer wanted to play himself, was particularly tricky. An exquisite duo presents pure concert delight and the palace with its garden demands a visit, too. Take your time. It’s worth it.
