»Six foot tall, appearing like a god of war, a favourite among his comrades and an idol to beautiful women«, Theodor Fontane did not have to invent this image as the nephew of Frederic the Great had been considered an extraordinarily charismatic appearance even during his lifetime. Plus, he could play the piano as even Beethoven had to admit. Yet the Prince was looking for human recognition beyond rank and title and found true friends among non-noble citizens. Musically he was also ahead of his times: the friendship to piano virtuoso and composer Dussek made Louis Ferdinand the so-called »romantic of the classical era« when he was greeted by Robert Schumann and his generation as a kindred soul.
