At 19, Princess Liselotte of the Palatinate is forced to marry Louis XIV's brother. Monsieur loves women's fashion and men… Out of necessity he fathers three children with her. She likes the king, but the court fuss is an abomination to her, straightforward and down-to-earth as she is. Fifty long years, she fights her loneliness by writing letters, while the court dances its chaconnes and gavottes around her. Her messages are so drastic and full of life, hair-raising and touching, that they still reach us today: especially when the lautten compagney BERLIN plays the grand masters of French music along to them, and they shine as they did in Versailles, back then. Liselotte loved music at least as much as she loved comedy and hunting, books and dogs, hearty food - and juicy humor.
