Tarantella!
Fiery baroque dances & concerti from Naples
Fast, hot & virtuosic music from the sunny south with traditional tarantellas & music by Antonio Vivaldi, Luigi Boccherini, Domenico Scarlatti, Giuseppe Valentini, Francesco Geminiani, Nicola Porpora and others.
Théotime Langlois de Swarte violin
Luciana Mancini mezzo-soprano
HOLLAND BAROQUE
Judith & Tineke Steenbrink conductor
The tarantella once supposedly worked wonders as dance therapy against common spider venom. In any case, the wild dance had a wonderfully stimulating effect on the composers of the Baroque period: as did the fandango, folia and other folk dances in which there is a method to the madness. They made juicy fodder for virtuosos such as Théotime Langlois de Swarte, the absolute shooting star in the baroque violin heaven. These are homeland sounds, not only made for southern plants on Sanssouci's Orangery Terraces but for the grand finale of the dance-loving Potsdam Sanssouci Music Festival 2024!
