Tobias Koch fortepiano
The 19th century marked the end of French cultural sovereignty on the dance floor. It had long since been undermined by English »country dances« or couple dances with intoxicating torque. The minuet no longer kept pace with the spirit of the times. In the ballroom, people were dancing waltzes, country dances, gallops, mazurkas and polonaises - piano virtuosos turned them into sparkling gems for the ear. And when the Polish independence movement gathered around Chopin's piano in Paris, dance even became a national symbol. Tobias Koch, a pianist, performing on historical instruments, is an outstanding interpreter of piano works of the time and he knows exactly what is needed for this music to unfold its weightless magic: »The two hands must dance together!«
