Hippies in the GDR
An evening dedicated to the East German blues scene featuring an introduction, a screening and lots of live music
Bluesers or trampers were the names they were using, they had long hair, wore slippers and wanted to be freer than the Free German Youth was meant to be: the authorities were always watching them. When in 2006 Lutz Rentner and Frank Otto Sperlich presented their film »Wittstock instead of Woodstock« about GDR »hippies« there was a rock concert atmosphere. Michael Rauhut who is an expert and worked on the project as consultant introduces the screening and when the fabulous Mike Seeber Trio take to the stage one thing will become abundantly clear: nothing is forgotten – blues has nothing to do with age!
