description

Paris in 1697: discord in person enters the opera stage and believes she is holding Europe firmly in her grip. Yet Amor's armourers work overtime to give love a break. The creators of this piece shrewdly break down the great questions of war and peace and move them to the level of couples and their relationships showing four episodes with lovers from four nations in action: an uncertain shepherd idyll in France, a nightly serenade in Spain, a jealousy drama at a Venetian masked ball and a happy ending in a Turkish seraglio. Lust and frustration, that's what it's about everywhere and how to bear the latter with fortitude. Campras' novel ballet-opera seems like a baroque musical revue, is very entertaining and presented with an opulent cast. LES FOLIES FRANÇOISES amazed audiences with Lully's "Armide" in 2016 and this time they team up with COLLEGIUM MARIANUM PRAGUE. The top French baroque dance company led by Marie-Geneviève Massé presents the stylishly perfect dances. There can be no question as to who has cultural superiority in gallant Europe.
