Cultural transfer can head in many directions: people go on the tramp and take their ways of expression with them. Or melodies and rhythms are so intoxicating that they even cross borders. This program goes the other way: composers look across borders of nations, styles and eras and find inspiration in folk and art music from other periods and regions. Luciano Berio in his "Folk Songs" fascinatingly brings old folk to mind. Giacinto Scelsi tracks down East Asian Philosophies as they have magically attracted Europe for a long time and Salcatore Sciarrino is even inspired by Hermes, the ancient messenger of the gods. A program from the centre of Europe and from the middle of the 20th century, which travels far in terms of space and time.
