Marble Palace New Garden | Concert Hall / Address: Im Neuen Garten, 14469 Potsdam

Aarón Zapico, harpsichord
Daniel Zapico, theorbo
Pablo Zapico, guitar

Dances all across Europe in virtuosic variations by Santiago de Murcia (1673-1739), Gaspar Sanz (around 1640 - around 1710), Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) et al. with improvisations

Casanova called it "the most lustful dance on earth" and he must have known. Everyone in Spain was dancing the fandango back then, both in the streets and in the palaces. And everyone in Europe was happy to follow suit. The fandango came to epitomize Spanish lifestyle much like the flamenco does today. It is actually believed to have originated in Southern America - like many dances that spread in Europe with the Spanish guitar fashion. All those fandangos, folias and chaconas are based on simple harmonic formulas, which is why they have such potential that can be unfolded again and again in endless and fantastic variations and sequences. The virtuosic troika that is the brothers Zapico shows what great composers turned it into and they spin the thread of tradition with their own improvisations
