Stylish sociability: parlour concert in Palais Lichtenau
ACCESS: 15.30 h | Palais Lichtenau | Ballroom / Address: Kurfürstenstr. 40, 14467 Potsdam
The parlour was always one of the most important (and most amusing) venues of European social life and a centre for diverse musical activities – prior to the invention of any recording devices it also had to be live! Four intimate musical evenings in elegant venues are a must not just for socialites. You are greeted by your host, familiarized with the history of the building and meet the artists of the Music Festival up, close and personal. Enjoy first class music with a glass of wine and delicious treats in a relaxed atmosphere.
Guillaume Coppola & Hervé Billaut, piano for four hands
Music by Franz Schubert & Johannes Brahms
Vienna was almost a stronghold of four-handed piano playing, which in turn was probably the most popular way of passing parlour time. Johannes Brahms from Hamburg really came to blossom in waltz-crazy Vienna. And like Franz Schubert he was inspired by Hungary’s folk music as it was basically on the doorstep of the Danube metropolis.
The series "European Parlour" is staged in cooperation with the Supporters' Club of the Music Festival Potsdam Sanssouci e.V. We wish to thank our host, Tanja and Axel Fischer, the Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung für die Freiheit (Regionalbüro Berlin-Brandenburg) as well as the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation.
Tickets include drinks and delicacies prepared and served by à la maison.
