Italian, English & German madrigals for three to eight voices by Luca Marenzio & Claudio Monteverdi, John Dowland & Thomas Weelkes, Heinrich Schütz & Hans Leo Hassler et al.
The refined luxury creature made up of poetry and music was first enjoyed at the courts in Italy. However, French and Franco-Flemish immigrant musicians also played a major role in the genesis of the madrigal. The new sounds spread like a tender wildfire and infected all of Europe. Soon there was singing of love beyond the Alps, even beyond the English Channel love was musically celebrated for several voices. On its tramp the madrigal kept forever changing its shape. Young vocal ensemble VOCES SUAVES from Basel makes the transnational beauty and the emotionality of madrigals bloom and glow. And they do live up to their name.
