Picture Gallery Sanssouci
Address: Im Park Sanssouci, 14469 Potsdam
Construction period: 1755-63
Architect: Johann Gottfried Büring
Principal: Frederic II
Probably one of the most beautiful gallery spaces in the world is hiding behind a plain exterior not far from Sanssouci Palace where Frederic II created an appropriate setting for his collection. Paintings by Caravaggio, Rubens and Anton van Dyck are among its highlights. Pieces from other Prussian palaces are on display as well as parts of Frederic's collection were moved to Museum Island in Berlin. As part of the 250 anniversary celebrations some pieces returned back to their original places and can be seen in their original ambience until the end of 2014. The Music Festival offers the unique opportunity to discover this treasure chamber at night.
