Fireworks and illumination, drums and fanfare: That is how Baroque royalty celebrated themselves, and for a short but magnificent moment, the public was able to catch a glimpse of the glitz and glamour. For their esteemed audience, the Musikfestspiele Potsdam Sanssouci will shoot glistening musical fireworks of Baroque sounds into the sky, on the city’s most beautiful square – ignited by the sparks of explosive virtuosity!
The spectacle begins, trumpets sparkle, and celebration is in the air. The whole orchestra trembles in boisterous excitement, then comes to a brief, magical halt before finally, the dance picks up: Bach’s third orchestra suite with the famous Air is the perfect overture to a firework of musical ideas and brilliant soloists. Oboe, cello and two brass ensembles play three dynamite concertos from Venice, Berlin and London, before eventually – who would have thought – we hear Handels »Music for the Royal Fireworks« as grand finale. On top of that, fans of the legendary Commissario Brunetti can look forward to meeting his creator: As passionate supporter of the ensembles Il Complesso Barocco and Il Pomo d’Oro, Donna Leon has had great impact on the international Baroque scene.
