play original period cellos,
five-string piccolo cello,

Nomen est omen: The trio tiefsaits have devoted themselves to the sound of the low strings. In their charming programme, they explore how the cello as a bass instrument developed its full spectrum of sound. At the time, Dresden was a hotspot of innovation surrounding the cello: Musicians such as Friedrich Dotzauer, cello virtuoso and pioneer in conquering the instrument’s highest positions, were essential in advancing the instrument’s technique and carried the newly acquired possibilities into the Romantic era. The trio performs their own arrangements, playing several different string instruments and shedding bright light on their velvety darkness.
