ENSEMBLE 1700

The dream destination of all grand tourists is practically on Potsdam's doorstep, so omnipresent has it shaped the image of the city. Frederick II had its centerpiece redesigned in the style of an Italian piazza: with a Renaissance town hall à la Palladio and the Barberini Palace in Roman Baroque - , and an "antique" obelisk was not forgotten either. The Old Market is thus perfectly equipped for an Italian night. All that's missing is the music...

On a dream journey through "the land where the lemons bloom", that’s where the illustrious group of musicians around the multiaward-winning queen of the recorder, Dorothee Oberlinger, would like to take you. Also taking part are Avi Avital, one of the world's best mandolin virtuosos, and Giulia Semenzato, star soprano of the younger generation. Evgeni Sviridov will be fondly remembered by festival fans as the concertmaster of Ensemble 1700 and an excellent violin soloist. Together they will travel to the music centers of the Italian Baroque from Venice to Rome to Naples and pour out a whole cornucopia of musical treasures: with virtuoso concertos and sparkling bravura arias, melancholic melody and light-footed dancing. Italy in its purest form, to be enjoyed on a June night with vino and other Italian delicacies.
