Generations of grand tourists headed south over the Alps to Italy, while the baroque genre of trio sonata took the opposite route. Thanks to its stimulating versatility, the trio sonata took root everywhere. As it was combined with national traditions, it flourished as magnificently by the Thames and Seine, by the Elbe and Spree as in Italy. A prime example of successful musical integration! For years, Johannes Pramsohler and his formidable Ensemble Diderot have followed the winding paths of the trio sonata through the music centers of Europe and have drawn from the wealth of their repertoire a program that beautifully reveals the almost limitless creative potential of the genre.
