»Grand Tour« is the motto of the Music Festival Potsdam Sanssouci 2025, and in the Baroque period it was a household name for Europe's educated elite. But where does it actually come from and what made a trip a "Grand Tour"? Why did people undertake what was often a strenuous and even dangerous journey? What expectations did the "Grand Tourists" have when they set off, and what experiences did they return with? And what did they bring home with them? Christoph Martin Vogtherr, an expert on the subject, addresses these questions and reveals a variety of connections to the Potsdam cultural landscape in which the Music Festival is rooted.

Long underestimated as a simple instrument for beginners, the recorder has experienced a triumphant renaissance in recent decades: thanks to the passionate commitment of exceptional musicians such as Dorothee Oberlinger and Maurice Steger, who breathed exciting new life into it. Together they are dedicated to the musical transfer of the European Baroque, which was boosted by the busy travel industry, and on their big flute tour, sometimes solo, sometimes in duo, they get everything out of their instruments, from the most delicate espressivo to virtuoso fireworks. As an indispensable travel companion, Sebastian Wienand celebrates the high art of basso continuo playing on the harpsichord.
