We all know how easy it is to get lost in the gaze of a loved one, sometimes hopelessly lost. In Baroque poetry, the “luci belle” (beautiful lights) play an ambivalent role: they spark the longing for full devotion on one hand, and the fear of loss of control on the other. From this field of tension, music full of emotional develops, played out in an expressive dialogue between voice and recorder, in constant search for harmonious balance. The Baroque cantata as a reflection of human experience – as perfect in form as it is touching.
