Opening speech:
Prof. Dr. Silke Leopold musicologist
As a pioneer of musical field research, the Briton Charles Burney single-handedly explored the conditions of European musical life around 1770. He met them all: the fashionable composers of the day, the newcomers with a future and the heroes of the past. The {oh!} Orkiestra from Katowice, which thrilled audiences in Potsdam with "Mendelssohn & Friends" in 2023, follows his route from Vienna via Prague, Dresden, Potsdam and Berlin back to London - and Max Emanuel Cencic, with incomparable charisma and phenomenal musicality, revives the golden age of Italian baroque opera, which took Europe by storm, thanks to the artistry of singers such as Farinelli and Senesino.
