In discovering the seven spectral colours of white light in the 18th century, Isaac Newton not only revolutionized optics but also set into motion a spirited dialogue between science and the arts: It is not easy to wrap one’s mind around how the objective laws of nature translate into the play of millions of colours that constitute subjective perception. Following her fulminant performance at the opening concert 2025, Laura Quesada has developed her own programme, pursuing the correspondence of colours, emotions, and music, with a rich palette and dramatic contrasts. Very much in accordance with the spirit of Enlightenment!

Dr. Kerstin Maria Pahl Historian, member of the Junge Akademie (Young Academy)
The 18th century is considered to be the century of emotion. Contemporaries from all across Europe strived to develop sensibility (sensibilité): the ability to feel beauty and to perceive the slightest of mood changes. Music, art and literature served as training grounds, where the senses were educated and refined, and tastes were developed.
A series in cooperation with the Berlin-Brandenburgischen Akademie der Wissenschaften
