Aurora attempts to seduce the hunter Cefalo who resists her advances – he only loves his wife, Procride. Seeking vengeance, the insulted goddess persuades him to put his wife’s loyalty to the test… But then there is the Athenian princess who is also seized by jealousy, and whose distrust towards Cefalo culmitates in a fatal error. Can the compassion of the gods bring about a happy ending?
Michiel Dijkema is known for his imaginative productions for which he received many international opera awards. The performance of Bononcini’s one-act opera marks his debut as director and stage designer at the Potsdam music festival. From the concert master desk, Bernhard Forck leads the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin as well as an excellent, virtuosic vocal ensemble.
