RUE RAMEAU - a prime address!
Jean-Philippe Rameau was a jack-of-all-trades in the 18th century. He did innovative opera and ballet creations and his orchestra sounds as well as his work as harpsichord virtuoso, theoretician and teacher revolutionized the music of his age and was in many ways ahead of it. Meet Bach and Händel's great French contemporary in Potsdam. You'll find him at Rue Rameau № 1 to 5.

description

Potsdam-based violin-maker Tilman Muthesius introduces
his 8-string viol based on an original from Rameau's era.

No matter what musical genre Rameau handles, he always marks it with his stamp of originality. In 1741 the harpsichord grand master publishes a collection of pieces one can play alone if need be. Yet they only truly show their charm when they are played as trio with two more instruments. Others before him had written harpsichord pieces with violin accompaniment. But he creates a whole new genre with his "piano trios" and this triple pack gains such a multitude of colours and textures, so much poetry and refinement, it becomes one of French chamber music's finest hours. Their 2014 recording earned LES TIMBRES much critical acclaim not least because a very special viol was participating - you will get to know it better at this concert.
