description

A harp is not only a tonal miracle - it is also a feast for the eyes. This is especially true for the then newly invented, 18th century single pedal harp, the so called "harpe organisée". Using hands and feet simultaneously was a new experience for the harp players and spellbound audiences were watching in awe. Paris in particular became a centre of harp manufacture and harp playing. Musicians and instrument makers such as Krumpholtz and Naderman pushed on with technical innovations, which resulted in a world of previously unknown musical possibilities. Historical harp expert Maria Cleary takes you back to the tempestuous youth of this strung-up beauty and presents some real gems for your delight.
