description

Hermann Prince Pückler-Muskau admitted "he who really wants to know me has to know my garden, my garden is my heart." A vast heart indeed: he converted his entire property in Muskau into a park landscape. When the work was accomplished thirty years later and the prince was more than bankrupt, the incurable park-maniac sold Muskau and created a new masterpiece in Branitz. And when it came to music, he also demanded the very best. Consequently, when he bought the immensely expensive rosewood piano he asked Clara Schumann and Mendelssohn for advice. Today the master instrument from Branitz can exclusively be experienced in Potsdam where Lenné's strongest competitor also left his impressive mark by creating Park Babelsberg. Petra Somlai makes expert use of her masterly skills for historical pianos.

In cooperation with the Fürst-Pückler-Museum Park und Schloss Branitz Foundation.

We wish to thank the Prince-Pückler-Heirs for the kind loan.
