description

Why don't you arrive a bit early and go for a walk through Marly Garden, probably Lenné's most graceful creation. His idyllic paths take you straight to Arcadia and to Guarini's Amarilli and her "faithful shepherd" Mirtillo. The couple has to suffer a lot until in the end love prevails. "Il pastor fido" is a classic among the pastoral poetry. During Monteverdi's time the piece was brand new and he invents an excitingly new music for its verses granting it any liberty to better serve emotional expressions. "Cruda Amarilli" is one of his most famous madrigals. The celebrated vocal ensemble CONCERTO ITALIANO presents Guarini's verses in several musical versions by Monteverdi and his contemporaries offering a fascinatingly multifaceted snapshot of madrigal art at around 1600.
