Naples in 1674: a Duke stages an opera to entertain his illustrious guests in a villa, which offers a spectacular view onto the gulf. The star of the evening: the stunningly beautiful Giulia de Caro also lover to several of the noble men who have gathered. Duke Orismondo desires her as Stellidaura but she in turn loves his kinsman Armidoro and unleashes a jealousy drama packed with dramatic turns, passionate love lyrics and comedic wit. Francesco Provenzale turned this shining moment of Neapolitan Dolce Vita into a highlight in the history of opera. In 2012 Alessandro De Marchi and his ensemble revived the sound of this opera jewel in Innsbruck for the very first time and discovered Provenzale as the »Monteverdi of the South« whose music matches the opera style of his age with the soundscape of the pulsating Mediterranean metropolis. The baroque orchestra mutates into a Neapolitan street orchestra and the magically poetic production is touched by the spirit of the Commedia dell'Arte ...
