His contemporaries saw Haydn as a humble and loveable man, following the ideal of the age. Those who suspect he might have been somewhat simple-minded should look closely at the clever irony of his compositions. Be that as it may: his musical path from Rohrau to London is lined with friends and colleagues who liked, loved and admired him: the Mozarts, Salzburg acquaintances of his brother Michael Haydn, Luigi Tomasini, a colleague at the Esterházy‘s court or his Viennese friend Pavel Wranitzky. Imagining how Haydn might have played with and composed for these musicians inspired the idea for a concert that brings these illustrious names together once more. Chamber music with a very friendly touch indeed. Italian ensemble Musi-ca Antiqua Roma and their Primus Riccardo Minasi use their charms and their in-struments to bring back the friendly feeling.
